Where are you from?
I grew up in Chicago but I was born in Cleveland OH. My business partner Regan Hall and I met in grammar school, at age 8. (Obviously she is from Chicago too!)
How did you become a designer?
Well….
I was a painter and an art teacher first. Then the art program was cut at the school I was working at. I worked at an alternative school (like in the movie Precious?—it didn’t look that dirty though!) so needless to say, I was a little burnt out anyway. I always wanted to be in fashion but I didn’t like making clothes. Starting my own line seemed like the perfect mix between sculpture and fashion. I also wanted to work for my self because then I couldn’t “lose my job” again.
What do you want to tell the world about your line?
I want the world to know that we are eco-friendly, sexy, and edgy. I want to be thought of as the handbag designer’s designer. We pay close attention to detail. People who appreciate fashion and art really appreciate details!
Tell us something about you that no one knows.
My brother is a rapper.
I studied Kung Fu for 4 yrs.
I used to live in Italy.
I read books like the Quest of the Silver Fleece by W.E.B DuBois for fun.
I believe in wearing sequins to the grocery store… maybe that’s pretty well known though!
Any style tips for us?
Just be yourself. You have to wear what your heart desires.
